An Historical Sketch
Composed from the Manual of the Congregational Church, 1912

The Congregational Church of Bennington, NH, then called Hancock Factory  Village, was organized July 10, 1839, by a Council duly called for that purpose.  The Church was composed of twenty persons who brought letters from other churches and three who were accepted by the Council, on confession of faith.  Six years before, on February 12, 1833, "a religious society" had been formed to be known as " The Trinitarian Congregational Society in Hancock Factory Village and Society Land". In 1838 a neat house of worship had been created.
